Hilltop Life
Many visitors wonder whether they should stay by the beach or higher up in the hills. Before purchasing the ruins of The Old Fort, we asked ourselves the same question. After staying in various places both uphill and downhill, we discovered several advantages of being higher up:
Wide-Open Stunning Views: Breathtaking, panoramic views of the Grenadine Islands.
Constant Cooling Breezes: Enjoy refreshing breezes that naturally cool the air.
Added Privacy: More seclusion and serenity for a peaceful stay.
A More Pristine Environment: Cleaner surroundings and fewer disturbances.
Fewer Insects: Reduced exposure to bugs that are more common near the water.
More Safety: Less accessibility for pedestrians and traffic, ensuring a more secure environment.
In contrast, beachside or lower-lying properties can experience high humidity, more insects, and noise from local nightlife or nearby neighborhoods. Additionally, main roads often pass through beach areas, increasing foot and vehicle traffic.
Bequia is a small island, making it easy and convenient to enjoy the beach whenever you wish. After a day by the water, you’ll appreciate returning to the privacy and tranquility of staying higher up. The Old Fort is conveniently located just a drive from the best beaches on the island, including Princess Margaret and Lower Bay Beach, which are only 5-10 minutes away by car.
Our estate stretches over 30 acres, all the way to a clifftop above the ocean, offering complete privacy and stunning views of Mustique, distant Grenada, and all the Grenadine Islands. One of the best times to visit this spot is in the morning when the light is crisp, or in the evening to enjoy the sunset reflecting off the uninhabited islands to the East.
Not to forget are the two unspoiled beaches which are located to the South and East of The Old Fort – They are one of a kind and only a short hike away.
